Most people know what kind of game Roulette is (so popular in James Bond movies). A small ball is sent around a spinning wheel, coming to rest in one of the numbered slots. If you play American Roulette, the wheel will have 38 slots - because there is both 0 and 00. European Roulette has only one 0. This is a game of luck: the skill involves understanding how to make the bets and spread the risk. A roulette wheel with 37 slots gives the player slightly better odds. Betting can be either on the Inside or the Outside.
Inside Bets
Playing on the 'inside field' gives the gambler the highest odds.
• Straight Up Bet - You put your chip on only one number - you get 35:1 odds.
• Split Bet - You place the chip on the line that divides two numbers - you get 17:1 odds.
• Street Bet - You place the chip on the line that leads to a three-number horizontal row on the table - you get 11:1 odds.
• Corner Bet - You place a chip on the line that divides four numbers you get 8:1 odds.
• Five Number Bet - You restrict your bet to numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 - you get 6:1 odds.
• Six Number Bet - You put a chip on the outside line that covers two rows of three numbers each - you get 5:1 odds.
Outside Bets
Playing on the 'outside field' gives the gambler greater security, but much lower payouts.
• Place the chip on the red or black marker to catch all these numbers - you get 1:1 odds.
• Place the chip in the area that covers one of three number groups - 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36 - you get 2:1 odds. Column Bets - place the chip on the outside line of one of three vertical columns of numbers - you get 2:1 odds.
